09 is a three member rap group based in Philadelphia All born and raised in the Tacony section of the city termed the Red Zone by Philadelphia Police it should come as no surprise that this location would produce some of the most explosive material The term lsquo;09rsquo; is also used to describe the neighborhood and the people in it Spearheaded by lyricistsproducers Dennis Fife Geoff Itrolla and Tony Nacarado whove been players on the Philly rap scene for the past nine years lsquo;09rsquo; masterfully combines the underground raw features of rap with hip-hops lyrical attitude lsquo;09rsquo;s lyrics explore the temptations and the trials lsquo;people like usrsquo; go through during life The group analyzes the choices they have made and those continually faced with day in and day out They travel through the twists of fate that these decisions have lead them to become lsquo;09rsquo; also explains the disturbing effects of their environment watching as people pass in and out of their lives by guns and drugs- in the kill or be killed world They grew up on the street corners listening to EPMD Cool-g rap KRS 1 U2 and Rakim A lot of inspiration came from EPMD There first recording was in 1992 and was called lsquo;Out for the Killrsquo; Dennis describes this as lsquo; here I am in your face entering the rap game and I lsquo;m going to be a number one respected artist in the hard core streets of Philly and around the world- Putting holes right through you and eyes on the prizersquo; DJ Slick ( Geoff Itrolla) started making beats and soon they teamed up with Ruffhouse records getting as much studio time as possible DJ 2Tuff from Tough Crew took an immediate interest in lsquo;09rsquo; and began producing tracks with them This collaboration project set lsquo;09rsquo; sights on the next level Including more live performances and eventually a sought after record deal All remain true to their love of the game stating lsquo; we do what we like to do and what we do best- make the music the streets want to hearrsquo; lsquo;09rsquo; has grown lyrically and mentally over the last nine years- and now are ready to blow up lsquo;09rsquo; is highly recognized on the underground circuit as they are featured at Silk City on Spring Garden Avenue They have also opened for several performances in the Philadelphia area including the Ram Squad at Girard Hall and K7 at the Felton nightclub nbsp;
